Concert Review: Soundgarden at the JLC, London Ontario, July 3 2011

Talking about music is like dancing about architecture.

The above video features a guest appearance by the one and only Brian Raymond, who you may recognize from the local blogging world. He later grabbed my boob.

But yeah, pretty awesome concert. Soundgarden was a huge part of my musical upbringing, and although it makes me feel old to be seeing a “reunion tour” of such a band, it was great finally seeing them in person.

Coheed and Cambria opened, and kicked some ass themselves. Their quiet virtuosity was a contrast to Soundgarden’s flashier but less musically complex show.

Anyway, here are some pictures of pretty lights:

I laughed when I read that you felt old seeing a “reunion tour”. I can understand it though. When I was looking at Soundgarden's music beforehand, I realized most of it came out when I was still in elementary school, which is a few years ago now.

I am not sure though which makes me feel older, seeing a reunion tour, surrounded by people of a similar age, or going to a concert and being surrounded by kids, which has happened in the past. It is a bit awkward wanting to enjoy a concert, but having to sit down so that the 8 year old behind you can see.

I actually commented to the friend that I was with Sunday that it was nice to be at a concert surrounded by people my age or a bit older.

You took some great videos, with great sound quality, thanks for sharing!

It was definitely a great concert and JLC gave away some awesome seats.

I thought Chris Cornell was as great a singer as ever. Although Coheed & Cambria isn't my favorite band, they certainly did put on a good show as well. I was disappointed with the crowd, though. The section I was sitting in (which wasn't far from yours, by the looks of your pictures) was totally tame and sitting down most of the time. What happened to being excited about seeing an amazing band in concert? Maybe even moving to the music a little?

Soundgarden! Yeah, they were a big deal when I was in high school. I didn't even know they were having a reunion tour… And I didn't know Coheed and Cambria still had concerts, but I ony know two of their songs, so I'm uninformed.

Oh, well looks like you had fun, but why just pictures of your friends and none of you? And I like the pretty lights.

I'd give my left arm to see Soundgarden. Dying with jealousy.

Nice videos. Is the architecture comment a Vonnegut quote? Or a variation of one? I suppose I could google it but I have a shot attenti- ooh look, cereal!

Google won't help, Johnson. Dan seems to think it's from some girly movie, but it's been attributed to Frank Zappa and David Bowie and all sorts of other people. I'll just say I came up with it myself.
